Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. After her father's departure the family of Ford, they were taken care of by her grandmother, mom, and godparents. When she was a young girl, Ford suffered anxiety due to an obsessional-compulsive condition. Ford began performing in her teen years and joined part of the National Youth Theatre. She got into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. However, after only a week she decided it wasn't the right fit for her. Ford, instead of applying for admission to Central School of Speech and Drama and securing a place on her third attempt she applied for and was awarded acceptance to Central School of Speech and Drama. Shaun Dingwall was one of Ford's classmates. Shaun Dingwall went on to get recurring roles as Pete Tyler and Doctor Who. Ford completed her degree in 1993 however in the meantime she already had made her debut on television in a 1991 episode in the show Surgical Spirit; she adopted her professional title "Catherine Tate". Tate made her television debut in the year 1991, appearing in shows such as The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. and London's Burning. She worked on stage regularly as well as a part of the company's season 2000-2001. Tate gained not long after her recognition for her stand-up comedy, that were added to her selection in the year 1996.
